Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has made a special guest appearance in Netflix’s revival of the iconic American series A Different World.
RMD plays Mr Chukwu, the Nigerian father of Kojo Achebe, in episode seven. The guest role adds another international credit to RMD’s acting career.
The sequel premiered on September 24, 2026, bringing a new generation of students to Hillman while retaining connections to characters from the original series.
A Different World originally aired on NBC from September 24, 1987, to July 9, 1993, chronicling student life at Hillman, a fictional Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
The revival adopts a modern single-camera dramedy format. It centres on Deborah Wayne (played by Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of original fan favourites Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she navigates her freshman year and her own path at Hillman.
The new series honours its roots with Debbie Allen as executive producer and special appearances by original cast members, including Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell and Cree Summer. Following a successful launch, Netflix renewed the sequel for a second season on October 2, 2026.
RMD rose to prominence through television and films in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of Nollywood’s leading actors during the home-video era. He later served as Delta State’s commissioner for culture and tourism.
Viewers in Nigeria can stream the 2026 sequel on Netflix.
