Hot on the heels of its trailer release, Fatimah Binta Gimsay’s Binta Is Okay has been selected for the 15th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), giving the Nigerian short film another opportunity to reach audiences and industry professionals.
Binta Is Okay will screen at AFRIFF 2026, scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 1 to 7 under the theme “Frames of the Future: Africa’s Creative Intelligence.” The festival brings together filmmakers, producers, distributors, financiers and other industry professionals through screenings, masterclasses, industry sessions and networking opportunities.
The AFRIFF selection places Binta Is Okay within one of Africa’s major film gatherings and gives the project another platform to connect with viewers in Nigeria and beyond.
Writer-director Gimsay has previously described Binta Is Okay as a love letter to young women whose relationships with faith, their bodies and their families are more complicated than they may appear from the outside.
That complexity shapes the film’s central conflict. Rather than presenting Binta’s experience as a simple struggle between religion and sexual discovery, Gimsay has said she wanted to reflect the realities many young women face without demonising faith or glamourising sexual exploration.
In an earlier conversation with OYA Magazine, Gimsay encouraged audiences to “keep an eye out” for Binta Is Okay, suggesting that further details about the film’s release and availability would follow.
For now, AFRIFF represents another important step for the project.
Following the release of its first trailer, Binta Is Okay is beginning to move from early anticipation into wider public view. Its appearance at AFRIFF will place the film before festival audiences in Lagos this November.
