Phoenix Fury, the award-winning drama from filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo, has released a new trailer ahead of its upcoming theatrical debut, giving audiences a first extended look at a story built around revenge, loss, buried secrets and the long shadow of the past.
The trailer introduces Ewura-Ama, a woman who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana following the death of her husband. What initially appears to be an opportunity for a quiet retreat quickly takes a darker turn when the arrival of an influential guest brings a painful chapter of her past back into focus.
As the trailer unfolds, the film reveals another woman, Ifeatu, whose own life is connected to Ewura-Ama through a shared history of loss and violence. Their stories eventually converge, setting the stage for a confrontation shaped by years of unresolved pain.
Written, produced and directed by Chukwuogo, Phoenix Fury moves between Nigeria and Ghana and across different periods of time. The film uses its revenge-driven narrative to explore the consequences of trauma, injustice and the fight for justice.
The film arrives in cinemas with significant festival recognition already behind it.
Phoenix Fury premiered at the 2024 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it took home Best Film, while Chukwuogo won Best Director for the film.
Chukwuogo is also behind the film’s screenplay and production. Her work spans writing, directing and producing, and the film represents a major feature-length project in her growing body of work.
The film also features a mix of experienced and emerging actors, including Ama K. Abebrese, Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Tina Mba, Adjetey Anang, Joseph Momodu and Richard Mofe-Damijo.
With its new trailer now released, the focus shifts from Phoenix Fury’s festival success to its wider audience. The film is scheduled to open in Nigerian and Ghanaian cinemas on October 30, 2026, bringing the AFRIFF Best Film winner to audiences beyond the festival circuit.
