The cast, crew and volunteers of Black Market took their Guinness World Records campaign to Eko Market last weekend, moving through Lagos Island in matching merchandise and speaking with traders and passers-by about the September 26 screening.
Black Market is aiming to gather 50,000 people at a single screening at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, to break the Guinness World Records title for the largest paying audience at a film premiere. The current record is 43,624 people, set at a 2015 screening at the Philippine Arena in the Philippines.
At Eko Market, traders joined the caravan as it moved through the market, with some wearing Black Market merchandise. Producers Nora Awolowo and Nicole Ofoegbu attended the activation, while cast members Taye Arimoro and Folagade Banks, known as Mama Deola, met and took photographs with traders. Akintola Qomorudeen, known as Hotspot, served as MC.
Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Awolowo and Ofoegbu for Rixel Studios, in partnership with FilmOne Studios and Signet Ring Studios, Black Market follows five market women running a smuggling operation across the Nigerian border. The cast includes Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe and Susan Pwajok.
