Melon House Production has revealed the official poster for its debut feature, Adanne.
Written and produced by Gold Gerry, directed by Orobosa Ikponmwen, and co-produced by Lotanna Nwose, the film wrapped production in December 2025.
In a brief conversation with OYA Magazine, Ikponmwen said Adanne was completed a few months ago and has been selected to screen at several festivals.
“We’ve been selected to screen at some festivals, which I’m pretty excited about, and more to come. I can’t confirm other plans beyond that at the moment,” she said.
However, according to an official Instagram announcement by AAIFF, Adanne has been selected for the 2026 All African Independent Film Festival, scheduled to hold from October 15 to 17.
Adanne follows three generations of Igbo women navigating love, duty and inherited family tensions. The story centres on a teenager caught between her creative ambitions and the expectations placed on her to reshape her family’s legacy.
Mmesomachi Chilaka plays Adanne, while Onyinye Odokoro plays her mother, Ijeoma. The cast also includes Jennifer Umenwa and Kelvinmary Ndukwe. The film is Ikponmwen’s feature directorial debut following several short films, including Bodmas, which earned her a 2025 FilmJoint Award nomination for Voice of Impact.
On the directorial choices used to distinguish the film’s three generations while showing the patterns connecting them, Ikponmwen pointed to production design and costume.
“We were working with a tight budget. So, we had to make the most of it and find creative ways to make each time period distinct in ways that felt natural for the characters that dominated those timelines,” she said.
This included using distinct colours for the characters’ costumes and sets across each period.
The film will be distributed by Trino Motion Pictures. A release date has not been announced.
